The book may be interesting, however it sounds like the author has some 
ideas I cannot agree with. For instance:

> the difficult process of learning telegraphy.
I suppose it can be made difficult, with poor methods and attitudes.
> satellite communications, which eventually provided a much more secure 
> and reliable connection.
Perhaps more secure, but only more reliable when a lot of complicated 
stuff continues to work, which often does not happen when you need it most.

> this condition of uselessness
Really!?

The following is true and it contradicts one or two of the previous quotes.
> it offers the possibility of communicating over great distances using 
> less expensive transmitting and receiving devices.
