[CW] Use of AR

If two people are talking, its rude to interject oneself into the conversation. Wait like everyone else, and thats why the KN is used. Especially if you are answering a CQ call, or you are the one calling CQ and another station calls. I want HIM not every other statiion in there calling me. If I am listening to a pile up, and having problems hearing the target station, and happend to hear him say K at the end of a transmission, that is OUR invitation to call again. If he says KN, I know he has specified a particular station, and ONLY that station should come back to him. In todays crowds, its hard to hear who he came back to, and most every station stops and wonders "was it me". Someone quickly says "IMI" and generally (and hopefully) everyone stays quite until he gives outt he call again, so the proper station can come back.

Then you see/hear, those people who user OVER AND OUT on voice. Which put simply - means:
Im finished talking - you go ahead - but Im not going to listen. I cringe when I hear that nonsense in movies and TV shows. Then at the end, in their credits, they always thank Colonel or General so and so, for being their technical advisor. What colonel or general has any idea? Most of the privates and seargents dont know either.

We always used AR at the end of transmitting a MSG or QTC...

  Preamble =

  Address =

  Body of message=

  Signature

  AR ( Terminating Signal)

Then send the Invitation to transmit to see if the receiving operator will QSL.

  K

and that was how it was done in the British Commonwealth ships...

However it really doesnt mean much in todays world of Internet anything goes comms....

I don't like to hear ops using KN on the ham bands in public open ham radio conversations, as it then means, we are only talking to each other and do not want to
hear from anyone else. "Keep Out" ...
