[CW] Straight key vs paddle

They all have their own function.

I usually use an electronic key but use my straight key to emphasize/exaggerate characters when condx are bad or when a mediocre op can't digest my unsual (OU) prefix. A straight key is also best if I have to QRS - find it vy difficult to send below 10-12 WPM on an el key.

My bugs have a more personal feel then my el keys and thery stand out from the crowd in a DX pile up. Also fun to put in an exaggerated banana boat swing with my bugs-- especially when calling CQ -- something akin to a Dixie drawl.

Then there's the sideswiper-cootie key -- that's a real challenge but also lots of fun.

(Have also have had QSOs tapping a wire to chassis on my WS-19 Mk II)

  Hi all,

Lots of useful suggestions and heard some rationale to use a straight key. Would it impair my ability to learn straight key if I started with a bug first?

  Thanks,
  Michiel

I agree with Larry. One of the nicest compliments I've had was when switching from a bug to straight key was "Wow! A W1AW fist." I still chuckle over that one.
