Hi Ken.
The comments on the use of a narrow filter on FieldDay are valid but one might caution that they are valid only for contests. Most of the time a good CW op will zero beat the calling station if for no other reason than to conserve bandwidth. I am not familiar with your rig but many rigs (transceivers) have a "spot" button which injects the sidetone into the received audio. While holding the spot button it is pretty easy to match the tone of the calling station with the sidetone. When matched, you should be on his frequency within a few Hz. Try it for practice by using the spot button ( I think some rigs call it the zero button) on a QSO with the widest filter in line then without adjusting anything, switch in narrower filters. If you have zero beat the caller, you will hear him all the way down to the narrowest filter.
GUD LUCK and GUD CW!
