no no, The Greek is Xristos. Our New Testament was written in Greek, not English. It does mean the Christ. Jesu Xristos. It means Jesus the Saviour, the Messiah. Modern times have changed the meaning a little and yes, there is a cross in it.
See also: http://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/test-archives/html4/1995-09/10443.html for more about that. That article suggests that Xristos is incompletely translated into English.

Ken
"X" is a cross. The Latin word for "across" is "trans". Hence XMTR XFMR
STR, and of course,
TAL for crystal. Happi Holidays

always suspected that X came to be an abbreviation for "Chris" or
Crys" by association with either Christmas or Christianity. Thank you
or verifying that. How is it that X also can be substituted for "trans"
s in XFMR and XMTR?
