Subject: [Radiomarine] Expanded KSM Press and Weather Service
This has been mentioned before but it might be worthy of repetition .
The KSM weather service at 2130Z on Saturdays has been well received with may listeners writing to say that they use the
transmissions to sharpen their CW skills just as so many did during the glory days when coast stations stood shoulder to shoulder on
the marine bands. But some also wrote to say they would welcome something more challenging than the weather with its predictable
format.
For the last couple of months Transmitter Supervisor Steve Hawes has prepared both press and weather for transmission earlier in the
day during the time we are attending Services of the Church of the Continuous Wave (where pastry and coffee are served) in the
engineer's lounge at the Bolinas transmitter site. Transmissions begin on all frequencies at 1000 Pacific time/1700Z. Our normal
speed is 25wpm (again at the request of listeners) but Steve sometimes uses 18wpm.
When I arrive at the receive site at about 1200 Pacific time/1900Z Steve throws control over to me as I put the wheel on the air for
KSM and activate K6KPH.
If you enjoy copying a little Morse on a Saturday please tune in. The frequencies are listed on our Web site at
http://www.radiomarine.org .
