[CW] 40m QRN

Hello Mike!

Running same gear as I did 6 months ago. Didn't try all the rigs, but the
FT-1000D was noisy. Orion II wouldn't have showed much different. Now couple
hours (0500z) later things settled down on 40m and 80m.

I think a little wind and lite snow static. Wind has been blowing near 40
mph most of the day.

I run aluminum full size antennas on 40m and 80m. Vertical on 80m and
horizontal aluminum dipole on 40m. Some times I wish I had a low 80m
horizontal wire.

Yes a K9AY system would be nice for hearing. This coming antenna season I
should have more time to do antenna work again. I retired (for now) a week
ago - had enough of the 12 hr / day rat race.

Yes, Merry Christmas!

Ken, KA0W

I guess that depends on the rig and if you had it better before Ken. I live
in town, and on any of the big 3 from JA, I alway run around a 7-9 on
40&80. Ten Tec's show a little lower, but it's actually the same noise
floor, just different reading. I have a friend who lives in the country who
has around S0-S1 on his 80m 4 square. I hate him! No, not really just
kidding. I think I would have to get something like a K9AY antenna to listen
with on my small lot to hear DX very well on the lowbands.

Merry Christmas

73 Mike K9MI
