Some old-time gear had "tip jacks" to plug in headphones with those things
on the leads--  I think they might have been called "tips" or "tip plugs".

Look at http://www.newark.com/product-details/text/catalog/9087.html to see
a tip jack--  the text says it's for a standard tip plug.
