Jan:
I was a boy scout and we learned cw and swling and semaphore. i really did
not do well with any of them. but my Industrial arts teach was K4UNE sk. he
brought an R 100 and a Globe Scout 90 to class and we could listen during
breaks he would get on at lunch and about a half dozen of us would always
show up when he would get on. we all got our tickets all but two of the 8
are now SK's and one WA4JQR who was my childhood pal and lived two houses
down the street never renewed his ticket the first time. all of us would
spend the weekends at his house as Clay's mother had money and she bought
him at age 15 an ht 37 hq 180 and a two ele hy-gain quad. the rest of us
were on cw or am with old ww2 rigs. Bill WA4MEX sk spent most of his radio
years homebrewing his cw rigs. the rest of us went other ways. it has been
the love of my life and K4UNE when he brought that R100 to class opened up
a world i did not know about but fell in love with at once. I was hooked
for life. Harold WA4GHO and my self are the only one left out of that high
school class that got out tickets but we all burnt up the air waves for
years. thanks to ART K4UNE .
