Gentlemen: Several weeks ago I acquired a surplus Soviet military key as used
by the Red Army about 30 or 40 years ago. I cannot find a model number on it
but have seen it referred to as a "TKF" key. A reference I found on a web
site said it was made in the town of Cherkassy which is in the Ukraine which
is now an independent country. The key is about 4" square x 3" high with a
black hard plastic square cover that is hinged and opens to the side of the
key. The key is mounted on top of a very elaborate key click filter that
forms a large sub-base. This filter would only be useful on high power (813,
etc.)cathode keyed transmitters and can easily be by-passed or removed. The
key is wonderful!! It has a very nice feel and a large size smooth plastic
knob that is comfortable to grab hold of. This works great for my bear paw
size hands and fingers. It has precise screw adjustments with lock-nuts.
Whoever designed this key must have been a former T-34 tank radio operator as
this key is built like a T-34 from the Great Patriotic War (World War II)!
Don't worry about overstressing or wearing it out; that is unless one ran
over it with a T34! Try one, you will not be disappointed. However, don't get
carried away and pay too much. I suspect the Red Army had large numbers of
them which probably will be showing up in quantity as surplus in the future.
