The point is that one NEVER carries on a conversation on 500 kHz.  One makes 
contact and shifts frequency.

Hams don't seem to be able to get this idea very well.  Without shifting 
off, the calling frequency is useless.

   I doubt that HAMS could carry on many QSO's on 1 frequency
with such gud propagation.  I had a friend that could hear ships
just off of west Africa when he was off the Viet Nam shore.
