We mostly saw it coming. We lost the battle for continuation of higher speed
tests sometime ago.
What I do not understand is that they want to test Novices, and other classes
for knowledge of new modes of communications, but do not want to do the same
with CW, up and only with Extra class, and a very minimum test at that.
The HF frequency band plan allows both Novices and General into what is now
CW/digital bands. I have no problem with them on the digital bands and indeed
welcome them there. But, and its a big but, why are they going to be allowed
on what is now used mostly as CW frequencies? Again, I say, NO TEST - NO
PRIVILEGES. I understand that the present holders of the present Novice, Tech
Plus, and General HAVE passed CW tests, and that should let them continue to
operate that mode, but for those who haven't, and who will not have to show any
skill, they do not belong there. It appears, that in order to not take anything
from present holders, there will be a freebie to new Novices and Generals.
Lets just all lay back and wait until the powers-that-be decided to give us
something. Why work for it?
