Unfortunately, Ken, I fear the "politically expedient" route has already
been taken by ARRL.  Rather than exercising leadership, courage, and vision
for the future of our service, they have fallen back to surveys and
compromises and are proposing a warmed over version of the status quo with
a few sops (like 5wpm Extra) to their perceived "core membership".
