I think that these days it refers to any form of manual CW sending as
compared with using a keyboard.

Good luck and keep trying. I went from a bug to a single-lever paddle and
didn't care much for it. A double-lever paddle has been in use here for over
three decades now, and I am finally getting the hang of it!  <:}
