There was a short biography of Harry Turner in Morsum Magnificat No.12,
Summer 1989. 

His code was copied on an army machine that could only record at up to 
35wpm and he thought he could have sent faster.  The (paper) tape was
presumably visually checked for accuracy, and could be measured to
confirm the speed.
He sent for 5 minutes and then copied it all back with no mistakes.
