In the event of the kind of electromagnetic pulse event neccesary to do the=
kind of damage to electronic gear being talked about here, I would be too =
busy, if I even had the time, saying goodbye to loved ones, face-a-face, to=
have any time to hop on my rig and check into the "Apocalypse Now Net," as=
the planet would surely soon be cracking like a big rotten cosmic hard-boi=
led egg. Alternatively, maybe the orb isn't shattered, though everything/bo=
dy on it or in it that was worthwhile and good and fun would be gone or mor=
phed/morphing into something/body if not horrifying, at least so bad it wou=
ld make you wish you could die slowly of a bone-crackling shrieking cancer,=
instead. No thanks! It's a hobby, and occasionally a (valuable) service, f=
ellows. It's all the "gear" that has us so thoroughly screwed that we may n=
ot ever get out of the mess we have made of the world, the air, and each ot=
hers lives and past since we learned how to make a compass needle twitch ac=
ross a room. dadahdidih didihdah dah. (Duh!)

there is really no going back.If they do away with cw as a test requirement=

, so be it. Besides 5wpm is not much of a test any how. Those who want to
do cw will do it regardless.
As far as a nuke emp goes, would not my cw rig suffer the same fate as my
fone rig ?Besides , in a real emergency I need to talk to people like the
police or fire etc. and these folks dont have ham rigs or know cw.Would I
waste my time trying to call them on my cw rig? Not likely.
Cw is fun to use so lets just relax and enjoy the hobby and the mode.=20
