Well, as one of the newer operators, I would like to contribute my 2 cents
worth.

I had a Novice license in the early eighties and for a variety of reasons
let it expire. I got interested in radio again this summer and got my Tech
licesne in August and my General in October. I retook the code test because
I couldn't document my previous license. And, yes, I got my General ticket
at a lesser code speed than I would have several years ago. No matter to me
because I intend to do most of my operating on CW, at least at first.

I enjoy these discussions because I would rather do my operating correctly
according to established tradition. I spend some time everyday trying to
imporve my operating skills and my code speed. I'm afraid that shortly a
lot of us will be using code simply because of tradition. Why not keep it
as traditional as possible?
