I received this from K4NK, Mr. Les Shattuck. However Mr. Shattuck is the =
ARRL Vice Director for the Roanoke Division and has NO vote. But Les did =
email me and elaborated his position for the record. Something Dennis =
Bodson, the Director of the Roanoke Division has NOT done. Below is the =
reply he sent to me in entirety.

John;
Thanks for the E-mail. I have made my position very clear to the =
other ARRL directors. I am Pro CW. I operate about 95% cw and enjoy it. =
There are so many special areas in Amateur Radio where CW just works =
better. For one I live in a mobile home retirement community , to keep =
the neighbors happy I run 50 watts CW into stealhy antennas ....NO =
GRIPES...tried SSB ...yipes. Also I am an avid QRP fan building little =
homebrew QRP cw rigs is easy. A very low cost avenue to amateur radio. =
Talk about real emergency communications the little qrp rigs run off 9 =
volt battery's and on 80 meters we communicate all over the south east =
with only a watt.=20

I am afraid that I might be in the 50 % of board members that really =
care about the hobby and don't have a progressionist attitude. There is =
nothing wrong with retaining CW for general and above . There are those =
who feel if we don't embrace every new mode and forget the old we will =
be pushed out of our spectrum. I feel this way... I like amateur radio =
the way it was 40 years ago , not everyone is cut out to be a "HAM" , =
work hard and earn your privledge's .=20

73 Les Shattuck K4NK ARRL Vice Director Roanoke Division
