Don,

No disrespect with a dxer of your calibur intended.. You are probaly a very
fine listening dxer but i have to disagree with you.
You stated the 40 Meter CW band has been almost devoid of activity during
summer daytime for several years. But that is to be expected with all the
static crashes and absorption levels. You also state there is more activity
in the winter months but it still can be sparce. I disagree with you on this
point.

I hear much activity on the CW bands during the winter months. On SSB I
cannot speak for that since I do not operate SSB Dx on 40 meters due to the
Heavy QRM due to the Shortwave AM stations. But I can copy a CW station in
the midst of the AM Broadcasts.

The winter months are the best times for dxing and some of the best dx I
have bagged has been on the CW portions of the 40 meter band during the
winter months. But if a CW Operator wants to improve his skills I would
suggest hams operate the CW portions of 80 and 40 meters during the summer
months!

By the way Don, I have been DXing since 1968 and most of my activity during
the winter nights in those early years was on 40 meter CW with a Johnson
Viking II transmitter and a National NC-300 Receiver. Ah, the good old days
I remember so well.

73's Don
