[CW] J-47 questions

GE all,

I just got a J-47. The boxes are dated 5/45; Even older than me.
The outer box is in fair shape but the top is missing.
The inner box is in excellent shape and still sealed in wax(?) and says, 
"Packed with a dehydrating agent do not open until ready for use."

First question: Is this a very early J-47?
2nd: Were these very good keys? I mean with respect to feel, maintaining 
their adjustment, etc.
3rd: What is this key worth?
4th: Would I be breaking some collector's heart by opening the box?
