[CW] N4NT Bug Adjustment Method

Hi again,

Mike Hyder, N4NT has sent along his own "private"
method of bug adjustment; it differs in some ways form
the "standard".

I have followed Mike's procedure. I now have essentially
perfect dits at about 20 wpm speed. I have compared the
sidetone sound with my old Morse Machine Iambic dit
sound at 20 wpm; it's difficult to hear a difference!

There are two distinct steps in Mike's process which I believe
have set the dit adjustment nearly "perfect". One is the
adjustment which establishes how "lightly" the pendulum arm
baps back against the damper wheel, D. This is done with
D on the diagram sent about the other day.

The second, and probably crucial adjustment for good dit
length is the adjustment of the dit stop, C. Mike advises that
this is NOT a critical adjustment, but I believe it solved my
dit length problem! For my 20 wpm speed, Mike suggests
using a C adjustment which results in the far end of the
pendulum arm displacing about 1/4" from the damper wheel.

Mike offers one other "Old Indian Trick" about the placement
of the dit contact surfaces --- I have not done that trick as yet, hi.
Why? Getting such good dits now without it, don't want to mess
up where I now am!

Well, these may not be the adjustments which brought about
the nice dits I now have; could be something else in his
method. But I think it is what I have described, hi. Mike
sent his procedure to me as an attachment to his email.
The reflectors will not pass such, so if you would like
to see Mike's process, contact him at:

Anyway, I am now quite satisfied with the bug adjustments.
Now to learn to use this machine!
