Does this include CW ops in the military?? We had point-to-point CW
circuits from Guam (1953-1954), handling aircraft position reports
throughout the Pacific. The air-to-ground boys (voice) would maintain
contact with aircraft as they flew from one Island to another, or to
Japan. The CW ops would take these position reports and relay to the
airport of destination. We also copied 5-number group WX reports from
Canberra, Australia. We also maintained CW contact with WB-29 weather
planes (B-29 bombers) flying typhoon tracts as they collected wx
statistics. The WB-29 boys almost always used a hand key. Occasionally
the airborne op would send lousy code due to the plane bouncing up and
down flying in a typhoon. This was with the AACS air to ground
communications wing. I have lost track of all the ops I worked with.
Callsigns were like, AIE Guam, AII Phillipines, AGC Kwajelein, AIF20
Tokyo, AIF50 Fukioko, AIG Okinawa. There were others, I just forget.
But, practice this, Guam having an emergeny message for Manila. Goes
like this: AII DE AIE Y K
