AGREED. It might well violate International Treaties and Agreements tp prohibit CW in any Amateur Band. In any event, it would requrie amendment of the FCCreg which allows a call sign to be transmitted on any band, and with any other mode being used,
in CW.
And, BTW, I am still a No Code Tech learning the Code so I can upgrade to General and then Extra. Already passed the General Written Element so I will, if I pass a CW test by 26 October 2002, automatically upgrade to General.
The Code must remain the uniform mode of transmission on all Ham Bands.

Jim,
I think you're right -- even if it is reserved for new modes of communications - something as
basic as CW should be allowed - even if it isn't fostered.
All amateur bands should permit CW.

I agree with most of what Hans proposes:
1) The 'phone bands should stay as they are
2) All hams who have passed a code test should have at least General class CW
privileges (spectrum, not power).
3) There should be HF spectrum for experimentation with new modes without
being
hamstrung by limitations on symbol rate or occupied bandwidth.
But note that his proposal would prohibit CW in those subbands. I don't think
that's a good idea.
