Hamvention®: Experience the ARRL EXPO at the Dayton Hamvention
On May 14-16, hams from all over the world will
make their way to the Hara Arena, located in
Trotwood, Ohio for the 2010 Dayton Hamvention®.
Held annually since 1952, Hamvention is one of
the largest Amateur Radio gatherings in the
world, and as we have been doing since 2005, the
ARRL will bring the ARRL EXPO -- a showcase of
ARRL exhibits and activities that celebrate the
very best of Amateur Radio -- to thousands of
radio amateurs. ARRL staff will also present a
number of exciting, interactive forums throughout
Hamvention weekend. Read more

Hamvention®: Dayton Hamvention Organizers Announce Forum Schedule
One of the many highlights at Dayton Hamvention®
-- sponsored by the Dayton Amateur Radio
Association (DARA) -- is the myriad of
educational and fun forums that take place the
entire weekend at Hara Arena. DARA has
coordinated 43 unique programs that encompass
nearly 80 hours of programs and activities for
the thousands of people expected to attend these
programs. Hamvention, the largest event of its
kind, will be May 14-16 at Hara Arena in
Trotwood, Ohio. Please keep in mind that the
schedule may change before Hamvention. Read more

ARRL Web Site: Find Your Way Around the New ARRL Web Site
By ARRL News Editor S. Khrystyne Keane, K1SFA
When the new ARRL Web site launched on April 13,
we received an overwhelming, enthusiastic
response to it. But along with that, we have also
received a few questions on how to find certain
features on the new site. Click
<http://www.arrl.org/news/find-your-way-around-the-new-arrl-web-site>here<http://www.arrl.org/images/view/News/ForgotPassword.JPG>
for a quick guide to find some of the more
popular features, such as the ARRL Periodical
Archive Search and Logbook of The World, on the new ARRL Web site.
Have you forgotten your password? When you click
on "Forgot Password?", you will be directed to a
page that, upon verification, will grant you a
temporary password. You can then change your
password in the "Edit your Profile" section.
Have you forgotten your password? You can easily
get a temporary password by clicking on the
"<http://www.arrl.org/forgot-password>Forgot
Password?" link, located directly under the
log-in box at the top of the page (see photo).
You can either request a temporary password via
e-mail (you must use the e-mail you originally
used to register for the previous ARRL Web site),
or you may retrieve a temporary password
immediately by providing your user name (for
hams, this is usually your call sign) and your
ARRL member ID number (found on your QST mailing
label). You must also provide either your call
sign or your last name. Click
<http://www.arrl.org/forgot-password>here<http://www.arrl.org/images/view/News/YourFavorites.JPG>
to receive a temporary password.
"Your Favorites" feature is a "bookmark" system for the ARRL Web site.
We have also received inquiries regarding the
"Favorites" function on the new Web site. Once
you successfully log in to the Web site, you will
see a drop-down box that says "Your Favorites"
right underneath your name (see photo). Go to any
page on the new ARRL Web site. Would you like to
find it in just one step? The "Your Favorites"
feature will do just that! When you are on the
desired page, just click on the "Your Favorites"
drop-down menu, click "Add to Favorites" then
click the "Go" button. Now you have stored that Web

page as one of your favorites; each time you wish
to go to that page, you can just access it
through the "Your Favorites" drop-down menu (see photo).
Of course, with a project as large as the new
ARRL Web site, there are still some bugs to be
worked out. Our IT Department is busy fixing
them, so please know that we are trying to solve
these problems as quickly as possible.
FCC News: ARRL Files Reply with FCC over
ReconRobotics' Opposition to League's Petition for Reconsideration
Following the ARRL's March 24 Petition for
Reconsideration of the FCC's grant of a waiver to
permit the operation of a robotic video device in
the 430-450 MHz band, ReconRobotics filed an
Opposition to the ARRL's Petition, declaring
that, among other things, the ARRL did not follow
proper procedure when submitting it. On April 16,
ARRL General Counsel Chris Imlay, W3KD, filed a
reply, asking the Commission to "reconsider,
rescind and stay the ReconRobotics waiver and the
effectiveness of the Order" in accordance with
the ARRL's Petition for Reconsideration. Read
more on the ARRL's reply

ARRL Foundation Awards Prestigious Goldfarb
Scholarship to Kyle Ebersold, KB1MNN
Kyle Ebersold, KB1MNN, of Holland, Massachusetts,
is the recipient of the 2010 William R. Goldfarb Memorial Scholarship.
The Board of Directors of the ARRL Foundation
proudly awarded the 2010 William R. Goldfarb
Memorial Scholarship to Kyle Ebersold, KB1MNN, of
Holland, Massachusetts. Kyle is a senior at
Tantasqua Regional High School in Fiskdale,
carrying a 4.31 GPA. He was first licensed in
August 2005, holds a General class license and is
a member of several Amateur Radio organizations
including the ARRL, the Hampden County Radio
Association and FISTS. He operates SSB, CW and
PSK31 with most contacts on 17, 20, 40 and 80
meters. Kyle's interest in ham radio began in
December 2004 when he received an SWL radio as a
gift. Inspired by stories from his grandfather --
who operated in the 1960s as a Novice -- Kyle was
bitten by the bug! He plans to attend Bryant
University in Smithfield, Rhode Island where he
will pursue studies in business. Applications for
the Goldfarb Scholarship and other ARRL
Foundation Scholarships are accepted each year
beginning October 1 and ending February 1 for the
academic year that starts the following
August/September. Read more

early mist had vanished and the fields lay like a
silver shield under the Sun" Cook, K7RA, reports:
A haunting specter from the past -- a Sun with no
spots -- returned this week. As of Wednesday,
we've seen seven days with no spots, a quiet Sun
unseen since early December. A spot may be
emerging in the solar northeast quadrant, and
NOAA and USAF predict a rising solar flux of 76,
78, and 78 for April 22-24, followed by 80 for
nine days, so perhaps this will turn around. Look
for more information on the ARRL Web site on
Friday, April 23. For more information concerning
radio propagation, visit the

area. Learn how to set up a Field Day publicity
calendar, invite elected officials and
dignitaries, get proclamations issued, post your
Field Day event on local media outlets and
community bulletin boards, get audio and video
PSAs on local radio and TV stations, how to use
newer social networks like Facebook and Twitter
and more to draw people to your Field Day event.

W1AW News: W1AW Offers Code Practice, Bulletins via EchoLink
Audio from W1AW's CW code practices and
CW/digital bulletins is now available using
EchoLink via the W1AW Conference Server
"W1AWBDCT." The 9:45 PM ET phone bulletin is
currently unavailable via W1AWBDCT. The audio is
sent in real-time and runs concurrently with
<http://www.arrl.org/w1aw-operating-schedule>W1AW's
regular transmission schedule. According to W1AW
Station Manager Joe Carcia, NJ1Q, this server is
currently at an experimental stage: "Since the
server is located at ARRL -- and uses the ARRL's
Internet connection -- there may be an issue as
to how many users can connect to W1AWBDCT via
EchoLink. The current number of connections is
set to 350. If the current system can properly
handle these connections without adversely
affecting the performance of the conference
server, this number will be bumped up higher."
All users who connect to the conference server
are muted. Please note that any questions or
comments should not be sent via the "Text" window
in EchoLink. Please send any questions or
comments via <mailto:w1aw at arrl.org>e-mail.
