Wind Advisory, High Wind Watch
Statement as of 1:53 PM PDT on October 12, 2009
...Wind Advisory in effect from 8 am to 2 PM PDT Tuesday...
...High wind watch in effect from Tuesday evening through
Wednesday morning...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Wind Advisory...
which is in effect from 8 am to 2 PM PDT Tuesday. A high wind
watch has also been issued. This high wind watch is in effect
from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.
* Timing: winds increasing and becoming locally strong by mid
morning through early afternoon Tuesday. Even stronger winds
possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
* Winds on Tuesday: south to southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up
to 50 mph. As rain spreads over the area by Tuesday
afternoon...wind gusts will diminish to less than 45 mph.
* Wind potential Tuesday night and Wednesday morning: south to
southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. Locally stronger
gusts possible in wind prone areas.
* Impacts: winds may be capable of producing damage to
trees...power lines and fences from Tuesday night through
Wednesday morning. Significant rainfall in advance of the
strongest winds could lead to some large trees being uprooted.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Motorists...especially in high profile vehicles...should use
caution and remain alert for sudden gusts or cross winds.
Unsecured objects such as lawn furniture should be secured or
moved indoors before the winds increase on Tuesday.
A high wind watch means there is potential for strong damaging
winds to affect the area.
