Statement as of 2:37 PM PST on January 01, 2009
...Wind Advisory in effect from 4 am to 4 PM PST Friday...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Wind Advisory...
which is in effect from 4 am to 4 PM PST Friday for the
Reno...Carson City...and Gardnerville areas.
* Timing: strong gusty winds are expected to develop around
daybreak Friday...lasting through Friday afternoon before
diminishing as a cold front moves through the area.
* Winds: southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph are
forecast. The strongest winds will be downwind of canyon
openings and other wind prone areas. Gusts on the higher ridges
such as Virginia Peak may near 80 mph.
* Impacts: motorists...especially in high profile
vehicles...should use caution and remain alert for sudden gusts
or cross winds. Loose outdoor objects should be secured before
strong winds start. Check our website at weather.Gov/Reno or
listen to NOAA Weather Radio for updates on this situation
