Reel Kids and Reel Recovery
We just completed two events where we used Amateur Radio for Emergency
Communications from the Pleasant Valley Fly Fishing Preserve where Cell
Phones
do not operate.
Jan Arthur K7JEA operated the radio station from Pleasant Valley.
The following operators monitored the 147.33 frequency for both events.
Dale Yanz KJ6IX, Will Lewis KD7NIR, Dale Anderson KV7S, Brad Smith
WT6B, Sheila Clement KA7AJQ and Don McRoberts W3DRM.
We had a medical emergency at Reel Recovery where one of our Fishing Guides
collapsed with chest pains. Jan Arthur K7JEA contacted Dale Yanz KJ6IX who
was monitoring the frequency at that time. Dale contacted the 911 center who
got us the medical help we needed. As a result the patient was air lifted
out of
Pleasant Valley to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He is doing
fine after having a Stint inserted in his chest. We have been told that if
he had not gotten the medical attention as quick as he did the end results
might have been different.
We received many favorable comments on how well the Emergency Radio
Communications worked when it was needed, and how great it was to have
Amateur Radio Operators willing to give up their time to monitor the
frequency
in case of an emergency.
So we would like to again Thank the Radio Operators who participated in
these
two events.
