Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 4:01 PM PST on December 23, 2008

...Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 PM Wednesday to 6 am
PST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather
Advisory for snow and blowing snow...which is in effect from 6 PM
Wednesday to 6 am PST Thursday.

* Light snow is expected Wednesday morning with a light accumulation.
There will be a break Wednesday afternoon before additional snow
develops for Wednesday night and Thursday morning along and
ahead of a strong cold front.

* Total snow accumulations: 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected
Wednesday night and Thursday morning in lower valleys with locally
   higher amounts in foothill locations.

* Winds: southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph...with gusts up to 45
mph...Wednesday night and Thursday morning will create areas of
blowing and drifting snow. Local gusts to 60 mph are expected in
wind prone areas near and west of Highway 395.

* Snow levels: snow levels will rise to 5500 to 6000 feet
Wednesday afternoon and evening before falling to all valley
   floors early Thursday morning.

* Impacts: a combination of snow accumulations and reduced
visibilities from wind will create potentially hazardous driving
   conditions.

Snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads
will become slick and hazardous...with snow and ice first
developing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists should slow down
and use caution. Check our website at weather.Gov/Reno or listen
to NOAA Weather Radio for updates on this situation.
