To Friends of Bob Evans,
Bob called us this afternoon from the hospital. He was able to speak, very
slowly but with difficulty. He said that he did pretty well through
Thanksgiving and Christmas and was able to visit with family and friends,
but had needed
a couple of blood transfusions. That has been one of his problems the last
few months, and there seems to be no explanation for what is lowering his
blood
counts so rapidly.
On New Year's Day, he had difficulty with breathing effectively and went to
the hospital, where he was admitted and several more pints of blood were
needed. His oxygenation level was low enough that he was unable to stand,
and was
put on supplemental oxygen. An x-ray showed increased size and numbers of
tumor masses in his lungs. He is no longer taking chemotherapy because it
was no
longer helping him, and the side-effects were pretty bad. He is on Albuterol
(an asthma medication), and he is breathing much easier now.
Bob is man of great courage, and is not giving up on life yet. He is able to
use his cell phone, 775-450-4543, both in the hospital and at home, and will
appreciate calls from his old friends here in Nevada.
