In only a month and a half, the 2006 Pony Express Reride takes place. The
pony enters Nevada on June 7th at 10:00 AM at Woodfords, CA. SIERA provides
communications for the Pony Express day and night as it travels across the
state to Ibapah, Utah, where it exits about 10:00 PM on June 9th. By
providing communications, we keep in relative close contact with the pony,
reporting it's current location via amateur radio. We use VHF and HF to get
the job done. We have some operators that follow the pony, and pass
information to VHF base stations using several repeaters, who in turn update
the telephone hotline. As the pony travels in areas with out repeater
coverage, contact is made with portable or mobile stations to relay the
information to HF operators, who in turn pass the information to base
stations in Carson City, and Utah. We also provide a vital link to the
outside world in the event of an emergency. We are looking for some
additional VHF and HF operators. Mobile and portable stations need to be
able to set up off the power grid, some with 4x4's, some without. We could
use additional personnel as local base stations as well. If you can provide
some help with this endeavor, or would like additional information, please
contact Terry Philbin KG0DU, Chairman of Pony Express Communications, at
(775) 267-9544, or email http://[email protected]. Come on out and
have some fun. Additional information is also available on the SIERA
Website http://www.siera-amateur-radio.org/Default.htm
Thank you in advance
