Special Weather Statement
320 am PST Thu Nov 24 2005

...Winter weather for the Sierra today and tonight with cold
temperatures for the end of the Thanksgiving weekend...

A strong cold front will pass through the region today and tonight.
Rain and snow will move into the Sierra today with rain in the
western Nevada valleys by evening. Snow levels will start between
7000 and 7500 feet this afternoon and drop below 6000 feet tonight.
In the Sierra...snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches is possible
above 7000 feet this afternoon and tonight.  At lake level in the
Tahoe basin...up to 2 inches of snow is possible tonight. Snow
levels will continue to fall to the western Nevada Valley floors on
Saturday morning where a dusting of snow is possible.

The strong cold front will bring gusty winds to the area along with
a significant drop in temperatures.  Winds will gust up to 80 mph
over the ridges today and tonight.  Mild high temperatures
over the last week will give way to readings 20 degrees colder by
Saturday.  Weekend highs will only reach the low 40s in the valleys
with 30s in the Sierra.  Low temperatures Sunday morning will drop
into the teens and lower 20s with single digit readings in the
Sierra valleys on Sunday morning.

Area residents should be prepared for a significant change in
weather conditions in the Sierra and western valleys of Nevada this
Holiday weekend.  Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio...or other
local media outlets for further information from the National
Weather Service.
