[CVRC] Flood WARNING for Reno/Carson City

Flood Warning
227 PM PST Fri Dec 30 2005

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued an urban and small
stream Flood WARNING effective until 230 PM PST Saturday afternoon
for people in the following counties

In central California
      Mono...eastern Nevada...eastern Placer...northeastern El Dorado
      and eastern alpine

In western Nevada
      Storey...extreme west central Lyon...southern Washoe...Douglas
      and Carson City

In northern California
      extreme eastern Modoc...Lassen...eastern Plumas and eastern
      Sierra

At 224 PM PST Weather Service Doppler radar indicated very heavy
rain over the region.

Heavy rainfall in eastern California and western Nevada is
expected to continue overnight and into Saturday afternoon. Total
rainfall by Saturday evening is expected to total as much as 6 to
8 inches in the Sierra with up to 2 to 4 inches of rain in the
foothills of the Sierra along the Highway 395 corridor. Due to the
heavy rain...excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of
small creeks and streams...country roads...normally dry washes and
arroyos...as well as farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
Flash flooding...rock slides and mudslides are also possible
especially in locations susceptible to flooding like burn areas and
steep terrain.

The Susan River is expected to cause major flooding and the Truckee
River near Vista is expected to have minor flooding and are
described in greater detail in separate flood statements. Snow
levels will drop rapidly tomorrow afternoon and evening which will
allow small creeks and streams...as well as rivers to recede. People
living near small creeks and streams should move valuables to higher
ground immediately.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Vehicles caught in rising water should be abandoned quickly.
Move to higher ground.
