Greetings to all,

June 20 through 26, 2004, is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week.
In conjunction with this annual event, and in preparation for amateur
radio support to the National Weather Service's Reno Forecast Office
through the SKYWARN program during the upcoming summer thunderstorm
season, a communications exercise is being planned for the evening of
Wednesday, June 23. The exercise is planned to start at 1830 hours and
last for approximately two hours. Details for the exercise are being
drawn up and will be revealed soon.

All hams registered in the SKYWARN program through the NWS Reno Forecast
Office are encouraged to particiate in this exercise. Other area hams,
especially any interested in participating in the SKYWARN program, are
encouraged to participate as well. Plans for the exercise will be
designed to include participation by non-ham SKYWARN spotters. Anyone
interested in assisting with operation of station WX7RNO at the Reno
National Weather Service Office during the exercise is asked to contact
myself or Doug Abramson, KA7FOO, Washoe County ARES Emergency
Coordinator, as soon as possible.

Other SKYWARN related activities will be occurring during this week as
well. Among them will be the reading of lightning safety bulletins
issued each day of the week by the National Weather Service on the
Western Nevada Noon Net.

National Lightning Safety Awareness Week is an annual education campaign
conducted by NOAA's National Weather Service to increase the public's
awareness regarding the dangers of lightning. More information about
lightning safety and National Lightning Safety Awareness Week can be
found at NWS's Lightning Safety web site, www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov.

Best to all,
Matt Parker, N7TOD
Reno SKYWARN Amateur Radio Liaison
