Flood Watch
455 am PDT sun Aug 15 2004

...Flash Flood Watch in effect for the Waterfall burn area and Carson
City until 8 PM today...

Moist and unstable air will remain over western Nevada and the
eastern Sierra today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms...some with
locally heavy rainfall...are expected to develop over and near the
Carson City area.

The destructive nature of the Waterfall fire created an area west of
Carson City with a high flash flood potential. Heavy rainfall could
produce a flash flood in as little as 20 minutes.

Residents in Kings...ash...and vicee canyons...as well as those
living in Carson City...should prepare for possible flash flooding
this afternoon and evening. If heavy rainfall occurs over one of
these canyons...a fast moving debris flow of ash...mud...water...
boulders and burned trees may move into Carson City. If heavy
rainfall does not affect your location...a flash flood is still
possible if you live downstream of Kings...ash and vicee canyons...or
near a steep slope burned by the Waterfall fire.

Residents of the Carson City area need to have a heightened awareness
of the flash flood threat created by the Waterfall fire. Stay tuned
to NOAA Weather Radio...and local media outlets...for additional
statements and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Expires:151800 gmt
