Greetings to all -
Today, we had a successful test of a new training procedure we have
concocted, and I want to share with you all what we're up to.
For some time now, we the participants of the "joint noon nets"
(Jefferson Noon Net on 40m, 7232 kHz. and the Western Nevada Noon Net on
2m, 147.120 MHz) have held a very informal net we call the "Know Code
Net." It is a slower speed, CW practice net wherein whoever is
available (if anyone) gathers on 7111 kHz at 1300 local and/or 3711 kHz
at 2000 local for friendly chat to build our skills. At the suggestion
of Ed Ewell, K7DXV, training editor for the EMCOMMWEST Bulletin, we have
began transmitting the net report for the WNNN in Radiogram form using
CW on the 1300 session of the Know Code Net. Transmission of the net
report via this method was conducted for the first time today, and we
got the message through despite lousy band conditions that killed
contact on the SSB net right after it started, highlighting a benefit of
CW operation and providing a successful test. Anyway, transmission of
the net report via this method will continue daily each day that we're
available to do this with the transmission speed kept as close to 5 WPM
as possible so as to provide some on-air practice for all interested.
Again, the frequency is 7111 kHz and the time will be 1300 hours local.
Additionally, we are to begin frequent transmission of test messages
intended to provide traffic handling practice on the voice nets as
well. Locally on the WNNN, this will likely be conducted after the net
closes at around 1230. Test messages may include the net report to be
sent for that day or any other test message the operators planning to
participate bring. As always, actual traffic for the NTS is always
welcome on the nets.

Matt
