High Wind Advisory

330 PM PST Tue Mar 11 2003

...High wind watch for Thursday and Thursday evening...

High winds are expected to develop around midday Thursday and
continue into Thursday evening across the Sierra and down the east
slopes of the Sierra into western Nevada. These strong southwest
winds are forecast to increase in advance of a strong low pressure
system and cold front developing off the Pacific northwest coast.
Southwest winds will increase to 35 to 45 mph Thursday with higher
gusts over 50 mph possible in wind prone areas by afternoon. Winds
of 80 mph or greater are possible at higher elevations of the Sierra.

Strong winds will make travel difficult especially for those in high
profile vehicles. Residents should secure or store lawn furniture
and other loose objects around the home or business. Stay tuned to
NOAA Weather Radio and other local media outlets for further
information from the National Weather Service on this approaching
storm.
