Greetings to all -

Some updates regarding Washoe County ARES' First Quarter 2003
Communications Exercise have been posted to the webpage for the drill
(http://www.qsl.net/nnars/wcaresdrill0203.html). Included is a brief
explanation for what necessitated the postponement of the drill from its
originally scheduled date last night to the current date of March 12. Some
changes to the communications plan for this exercise are included there as
well. I thank all prospective participants for their patience.

As a reminder, there are two phases to this exercise. Phase I is for those
participants wishing to utilize this exercise only for practicing their
traffic handling and logging skills. Phase II will be for those wishing to
practice skills involved in setting up a communications station under field
conditions, regardless of weather conditions, and operating as net control
stations. An element of competition has been folded into this exercise in
that the activities of each participant will qualify for certain amounts of
points. All participants will be acknowledged post-exercise on a web page
reporting the results of the exercise. Also, the top three scorers in
Phase I will received framed certificates acknowledging their achievement
while all participants in Phase II will receive certificates (I do ask that
all planning to participate in Phase II RSVP to me as soon as possible).

The points scale and requirements are all included on the web page, so
please visit it for answers to any questions you may have. Additional
details regarding the exercise will be added to the web page as "D-day"
approaches. I hope many of you will join in what promises to be a good
exercise of our skills as emergency communicators and our personal readiness.

Thanks and 73,
Matt Parker, N7TOD
