Fire Weather Advisory
1000 am PDT Mon Sep 02 2002

...A Fire Weather Watch has been issued in western Nevada for Tuesday
afternoon and evening...zones 450...453...459...458...and 576 for
strong winds and low relative humidities...

NV zone 450 in western Nevada including Carson City...Douglas and
Storey counties...southern Washoe County...and western Lyon County.

NV zone 453 west central Nevada basin and range including Pershing
and Churchill counties...east central Washoe County...and northern
Lyon County.

NV zone 459 in west central Nevada including Mineral and southern
Lyon counties.

NV zone 458 in extreme northwest Nevada including northern Washoe
County.

CA zone 576 in eastern California east of the Sierra crest includes
eastern Alpine County and northern Mono County.

*********************************************************************

Discussion: an unseasonably strong low pressure system will approach
northern California Tuesday. As the associated cold front approaches
western Nevada...southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40
mph are expected east of the Sierra crest by 2 to 3 PM Tuesday
afternoon. Winds along the ridgetops in the Sierra may see wind
gusts over 50 mph. In addition....very dry conditions will continue
as relative humidities bottom out tomorrow afternoon in the 12-17%
range. The slow moving low pressure system will allow the strong and
gusty winds to continue through Thursday while temperatures cool
significantly.

Fire crews and officials in the watch area should be prepared for
hazardous fire weather conditions Tuesday afternoon and evening.
