Sometimes...the best laid plans....work.
In setting up the Western Nevada Noon Net (2-meters, Reno) as a sub-net of
the Jefferson Noon Net (40 meters, Northern CA/OR/WA/NV), it was my intent
for the net to be able to take formal message traffic from the local area
and pass it immediately to the Jefferson Noon Net (JNN is a National
Traffic System affiliated net). Today, Doug - KA7FOO brought us the first
traffic to be passed on the Western Nevada Noon Net since we started. The
traffic was picked up off of the local net and immediately passed to Oregon
and a station in the immediate area of the recipient. In other words,
things worked exactly as planned!
Thanks to Doug for bringing the traffic. As the holidays approach, this is
a good opportunity for us hams to take advantage of the National Traffic
System and other private traffic handling nets that meet every day to pass
greetings to family members and old friends via amateur radio. The nets
have been pretty slow as of late and are therefore begging for your
traffic! Don't be shy, participate in this public service and enjoy this
aspect of amateur radio.
Don't know how to formulate a message in Radiogram format and transmit
it? Come to the NNARS meeting tomorrow - after we adjourn to our social
time, I will be talking to anyone willing to listen about traffic handling.
Some additional announcements regarding the meeting - first, the sixth item
on our agenda is always "Good of the Order." This is an opportunity for
anyone to bring to floor any matters not appearing on the agenda for
discussion and consideration by the membership. Starting with tomorrow's
meeting, I will be calling during this time for those NNARS members
associated with other clubs to share items of interest that their clubs are
involved with. This could include information regarding nets
(times/freqs), meetings, or events involving the other clubs. There is a
lot going on out there and this will help us all to keep up with current
events in our amateur radio communities.
Finally, I don't foresee getting things cleaned up and getting home in time
to run the WNNN and check into the JNN by noon, so it is my intention to
open station KE7R at the VA for net control/participation after the
meeting. Anyone interested will be welcome to join us for viewing and/or
operating the station.
