One of the items brought up at the November CVRC Steering Committee meeting
was that we needed to have some club events during the months between
regular meetings. These could be special-interest tours or workshops or
various field events. They would not be planned far in advance and would
be very informal affairs.
The first of these special events will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at
10:00 a.m. at Norm Pedersen's QTH, the home of KB6KQ Antennas. Norm has
offered to host club members and guests in a free hands-on antenna building
class. Norm is world-known for his line of VHF antennas and his work in
VHF weak-signal operation.
Norm has said each student will need to bring the following materials with
them:
(1) SO-239 chassis connector (Radio Shack #278-201)
(9) Feet of 10 AWG solid copper wire
(1) Radiator hose clamp to fit your mast (1.5 to 2 inches)
All of these materials must be obtained in advance and none will be
available at the class.
Norm's location is at 70 Arrowhead Drive, Carson City. This is at the
north end of Carson City, about a half-mile east of Highway 395.
Those of you who have never been to Norm's shop are in for a real treat and
everyone will learn a great deal as we roll up our sleeves and learn how to
build some antennas!
