High Wind Advisory

...High Wind Warning through tonight...

A cold low pressure system drove a strong cold front into northern
California today with high winds ahead of the system spreading
across the Sierra and into western Nevada valleys.  Wind gusts as
high as 80 mph have been observed in wind prone locations of the
Sierra and lee slopes into extreme western Nevada.  Wind gusts to
114 mph have been reported by Remote sensors on the Sierra crest.
South and southwest winds of 40 to 60 mph are likely this evening
and tonight along with gusts over 80 mph over the High Sierra.
Damage to trees...power lines and fences is possible with these very
windy conditions as well as blowing dust in western Nevada valleys.
The winds are expected to gradually diminish from the north after
midnight.

Wind sensitive activities and travel in high profile vehicles will
be hazardous at times in northeast California and western Nevada
through tonight. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local
media outlets for further statements from the National Weather
Service.
