[CVCC] DXCC Card Checkers-Local

Hi Jonathan-

I agree completely.

I believe that as a club, CVCC can request that a local DXCC Card Checker
be appointed, and nominate an individual to the Divisional Director or
Section Manager, indicating the need (the preponderance of CVCC members are
also DXers who presently must travel 100 miles in either of two directions
to get to a card checker).  I think - given the level of activity and the
number if DXers in the Richmond area - that person will likely get
appointed.  There were, in fact, one or two other Virginia checkers in
recent years who appear to have resigned - all the more reason to have
someone available to hams in the central part of the state.

Under the old system, there used to be some general requirements which I
think are still in force - the individual must have DXCC with 300+
countries, must be an active DXer, must be a member of the ARRL, and must
agree to abide by the guidelines for card checking.  In addition, to be
able to field check 160-meter cards, the checker himself must hold a
160-meter DXCC [I'm still working on this one :o)].  There is a pamphlet
which outlines the duties and procedures for card checkers.

There are several checkers in the northern Virginia area, and I have long
thought that Richmond should have one.  I'd certainly endorse any request
to the League that CVCC would put forth.
