I sent this out about an hour after the contest and just realized it wasn't
accepted by the reflector - Outlook must have switched back to html output
again....arrgh!
Anyway, like KG4W I just did S&P for fun, a little bit on both Sat and Sun.
Like him was pleased just how well the Carolina Windom works. With only 100
watts was able to crack a number of pileups easily and worked a number of
JA's on both 15 & 20. Even got the TX (FO) on around the 3rd call! Sat
afternoon I got tired of listening to my line noise, went outside for a walk
and to do a bit of beekeeping and while out decided to work on pulling the
antenna a bit higher in one of the trees. Managed a few more feet, I'm
sure it didn't make a difference but made me feel better. Sunday afternoon
I finally got disgusted enough with the noise to take another walk with my
homemade 135mHz noise sniffer and 3 el beam. Found one spot that seemed to
get me closer to the source, but nothing concrete. I sent a note of my
results to Bill Bowen anyway. Came back in as it was getting late and
finished playing on 40 meters to avoid the noise. I'm glad I made the
decision to not turn packet on. I really enjoyed the slow tuning up the
band and seeing what I could find and work.
