Bob,
I tried to send this via the cvcc mailing list 3 times and it keeps getting
bounced. Can you forward it to club members?

I've been checking into the possiblility of a special event call sign for
the CVCC duing this Quadricentennial year. It appears W4V will be available
if we go ahead and apply for it soon. One by one calls are only available
in most cases for a maximum of 15 days. I was thinking that Bob, W4MYA, as
trustee for our club call W4ML should make that application for the club.
If we got a special call for the club we could pass it around during a two
week period and everyone in the club that was so inclined could use it.
All logs should be collected and forwarded to one person who could be the
QSL manager for the contacts made with that call. A nice QSL card could be
designed and printed for the event.
To avoid conflict with other groups who will be doing similiar things I will
contact Glen Sage the Va Section Manager to try to coordinate an appropriate
date. I know the Dominion DX Group is operating a special event station
from Jamestown on the weekend of May 11-13. I'll call them to see what they
have planned and what call they will be using. Perhaps we have a member who
is also a member of that group who can fill us in. I'd like to activate W4V
for the period May 14 to May 28 but this may be impossible. At the very
least perhaps Bob could get that call or even some other 1x1 call for use in
the VA QSO Party from his multi-multi operation.
It has also been suggested that weekend operations be planned from various
historic sites around Virginia. That may also be an option we might want to
look into.
There is a short term award available called "The Virginia Quadricentennial
Commemorative Amateur Radio Award", sponsored by QCWA Vic Clark Chapter 91,
Washington, DC Area. Take a look here for information on that award:

It's down a ways on the page so keep going down till you find it.
These are just ideas and maybe someone has a better idea or two. I feel we
should do something as a club because this won't come around again for quite
a long time. I don't think I'll be here for the 500th anniversary!
Let's kick it around a bit. I'll post any information I get from Glen and
from the Dominion DX Group when I get it.
73,
Puck, W4PM
