Steve,

The inside of the 'white thingie' on the lower end of the ladder line is
a hoax.
There is nothing in there except air... it is a splice from coax to
ladder line.

Personally I would use a 4:1 balun to match the 50ohm coax to the 400
ohm line, as a purest.
But my own G5RV is as I described above.

My 4:1 DX engineering Balun is able to handle a kilowatt and cost me $145.
Next time I am outside I will photograph the part number for you.

The G5RV end (white blaun with pl259) didn't break. The coax runs from the balun about 20ft to the window pane. Do I put another pl259 on the coax end, or replace the coax? The coax is rg8x and it goes from the ladder line so239 to a MFJ (I know might fine junk) window pane. I am using the window pane to bring all my antennas into my second floor shack. It has a couple double sided so239's and a wing nut ground lug. It sits at the bottom of the shacks window and feeds my 10M, 2M/440 and HF leads into the room. Now back to the main question. Should I replace the coax with another length of rg8x pre made from HRO or change it to LMR 400. I think I have both. Thanks to all that reply Pro or Con. 73's.
