Our next meeting is this coming Thursday, March 6. Come out and celebrate
our having dodged the big snowstorm bullet.

This is going to be a two part meeting - March and April. Our topic for
the March meeting is going to be antennas built from window line. Not "fed
by window line", but built so that the entire antenna is made out of 450
ohm window line.

It turns out that window line can be used to build a variety of HF and
VHF/UHF antennas - both horizontal and vertical - that have good
performance characteristics, good flexibility and portability, and yet are
inexpensive and easy to build (some of them don't even need soldering).
Some of the antenna types that can be built with window line include
dual-band horizontal dipoles, end-fed Zepps (vertical or horizontal),
J-Poles and Slim Jims, and ground planes. The designs include matching
stubs (made with sections of window line) so that the antennas can be
operated without tuners (or at worst use the tuners built into most rigs).
AND -- they're fed with 50 ohm coax for ease of operation.

Window line antennas are excellent choices for vacation, for emergency or
public service ops, for temporary replacement of a bigger antenna system,
or for simple specific-band antennas to supplement your main antenna system
(e.g., a 15/10 meter vertical to supplement your multi-band horizontal
dipole).

For our April meeting, we are going to have a build-it yourself party and
everyone will have the opportunity to build one (or more) of these
antennas!!

*****

Our meeting is 8pm at Stamford Government Center, 6th Floor Safety Training
Room. We will be meeting for pizza at about 6:15pm at John the Baker, 30
Long Ridge Rd in the Bulls Head section of town (plenty of parking across
the street in the bank parking lot).

I hope to see you all at the meeting.

73s,
Jon, WB2RYV
