I just received a phone call from Leonid's son Dmitriy. Leonid passed away
over the weekend at his home here in Stamford. He was 76 and had been a
ham in the Soviet Union (UA1LD) under the Communists before he emigrated to
the United States. His call sign here was originally KB3CBF but under
special arrangement he had it changed to AA1LD. Many of you have heard
Leonid's hair-raising (literally) stories about his life in the Soviet
Union, about being a ham in that environment, and especially about his
experiences at Chernobyl.

There is no local service planned at this time, although it is expected
that there will be a memorial service sometime in the future.

We will miss his good humor, interesting stories, and his presence.

This obituary appeared on-line dated Sunday.
