... for his help in debugging a repeater problem this afternoon.
Sometime around 5:30, the 2 meter went into continuous transmit. Or perhaps I
should say "a 2 meter repeater" went into continuous transmit (see below).
Apparently John (WB1GRB) called Chris, Chris got on the air (and telephone)
with me and was a VERY big help in solving the problem. Thank you Chris.
As it turns out, the problem was in the hospital 2 meter, not Sterling Farms.
We couldn't tell at first because, in continuous transmit, the hospital was not
IDing. In addition, since it was transmitting, any time SF tried to transmit
the two were heterodyning, thus preventing us from hearing the ID.
This is the second time in the last couple of months that the hospital 2 meter
went into continuous transmit (that I know of). In both cases, we were in the
process of sending commands to the hospital repeater when this happened. It is
likely that the problem is a conflict between the controller that's built into
the repeater (but should be turned off) and the external Arcom controller that
we actually use to control things. We will investigate further to figure out
what's going on and make sure that the internal controller is turned off.
Thanks also to John (GRB) for calling Chris and also for checking the input to
make sure that the problem wasn't someone stuck in transmit, to W2SET in Long
Island who also checked the input, and to an out of area ham transiting on I-95
whose call I didn't get who also checked the input.
Jon
