No, I'm not awake at 2:15am to check hurricane progress, but I do happen to
be awake and did check. The predictions are NOT GOOD for Stamford, with a
number of the models having shifted to predict the eye of the storm coming
much much closer to us than they were previously suggesting.
THERE ARE NOW THREE MODELS THAT SHOW US GETTING HIT BY THE EYE OF THE STORM,
including two of them that puts us on the east side of the storm, which is
the worst place to be when that close to the eye. Twelve hours ago only one
model was showing us getting hit by the eye of the storm, and that was just
a glancing blow as the eye passed to our south and east.
Two other models show the eye passing just to our east, but close enough
that we will get the worst of the wind and rain on the west side of the
storm. Slightly better than being on the east side of the storm, but still
not good.
The remaining four models show the hurricane hitting well to our east with
the eye at least 50 miles from us. That would be much better.
The models can be seen at http://www.stormpulse.com/. Click on Atlantic
Hurricanes (upper left of the screen) and then click Forecast Models - ON.
ALSO -- ALL OF THE MODELS ARE NOW PREDICTING AN ARRIVAL SUNDAY MORNING
INSTEAD OF SUNDAY EVENING. That means less time to prepare.
Please take this seriously and prepare with food, water, batteries, candles,
gas for your generators, sufficient supplies of medicine if you're on
prescriptions. Please make sure that you take in all objects that could
wind up flying around and becoming weapons in 100+ mph winds, and if
possible trim back tree branches that scrape up against your houses -- those
can become weapons against your windows and also can get under roof shingles
and rip them off.
You might also want to consider bringing down your dipoles and verticals
(wherever possible) -- better to bring them down and protect them than have
them snap in strong winds.
