[CTSARA] mobile transmitter

Hi Jon:

I recently went through the same upgrade. I had only a 5W HT for 2m and 440.
I purchased a Yaesu FT-1900R. I'm using it in my car with an old Newtronics Hustler
CGT-144. It's a great big 5/8 over 1/4 design with tons of gain and height. It rides
about 10 feet off the ground. The Yaesu was $129 delivered with free shipping.
I was looking at the Icom 208H, but it was over twice the price of the Yaesu 2m
single bander. The Yaesu rig works great with its 55 watts and is very sensitive. It's
about as big as a small paperback book. It even has a CW training option that
sends you a variety of code to listen to. Tons of features and options and easy
to use at a tiny price. However, the Yaesu does not have a removable front plate.
I've heard really good things about the Icom transceiver, so
either way you can't go wrong.
